Tinea Cruris - Causes, Symptoms & Treatment

Tinea Cruris is a fungal skin and infection of the groin. Tinea cruris is a fungal infection and some types of fungus germs (fungi) are commonly found on human skin. Tinea cruris is an infection of the groin caused by a fungus.it is a fungal infection of the groin more common in men and women. They usually do no harm. Tinea cruris is 3 times more common in men than in women. Tinea cruris has a worldwide distribution but is found more commonly in hot humid climates. Adults are affected much more commonly than are children.

Tinea Cruris is a contagious infection transmitted by fomites, such as contaminated towels or hotel bedroom sheets, or by autoinoculation from a reservoir on the hands or feet (tinea manuum, tinea pedis, tinea unguium). The etiologic agents produce keratinases, which allow invasion of the cornified cell layer of the epidermis. Host immune response may prevent deeper invasion. Risk factors for initial infection or reinfection include wearing tight-fitting or wet clothing or undergarments.

Treatment of Tinea Cruris

Common Treatment of Tinea Cruris

  • Apply the cream (terbinafine, clotrimazole, econazole, ketoconazole) to the surrounding 4-6 cm of normal skin in addition to the rash.
  • Dry the groin carefully after bathing using a separate towel.
  • Do not share towels, sheets or personal clothing.
  • Avoid wearing occlusive or synthetic clothing.
  • If you are overweight, try to lose weight to reduce chafing and sweating.
